The Czech Republic is a country with the sort of rich history that can be perceived in all its corners. Many natural, technical and cultural monuments, which attract tourists from all around the world every year, abound. Thanks to its geographic location in the heart of Europe, the Czech Republic (1918) has encountered various cultural influences and architectonical styles throughout history. In spite of the totalitarian regime and damages suffered during World War II, it has preserved its very rich cultural heritage.

Mountains everywhere

From the physical-geographical point of view the Czech Republic is situated on the divide of two mountain systems of the Bohemian massive and the Western Carpathians. The main European watersheds dividing the river basins of the North, Baltic and Black Seas pass through the territory of the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic’s natural wealth is protected in many areas by officially declared natural reservations. Four national parks are located in the Czech Republic:

In Czech territory, there is a whole range of cold and hot natural mineral springs which are used for healing and curative procedures; spas are also located in these areas.

Acceptance to the UNESCO World Heritage List is not taken for granted. There are less than one thousand of these sites throughout the world, 14 of which you can find in the Czech Republic. In addition to the historical centres of Prague, Český Krumlov, Kutná Hora and Telč – you will also find on the list the functionalist Villa Tugendhat in Brno, historical gardens and chateau in Kroměříž and the symbolicpilgrimagechurche of St. John of Nepomuk in Žďár nad Sázavou.
